I came to the US from Dublin at age five, grew up in California, and have spent the rest of my life thinking about places. Two geography degrees from SF State later, that instinct turned into eighteen years of GIS practice, today as Lead Principal GIS Developer for the City of Sacramento, where the work is architecture, mentorship, and building tools other teams build on.
Alongside the day job I teach Python and ArcGIS at SF State and open-source GIS at UC Davis, and I follow AI and open-source AI with the same curiosity that pulled me toward open-source GIS twenty years ago.
